Things Remembered

Lyndon Baines Johnson Ranch House - Austin, Texas
Sharon went to school in Dallas, TX, and remembers a school trip commemorating completion of 7th grade. The trip included a visit to the Lyndon Baines Johnson (36th President of the USA) Library and Museum. Sharon remembers the bus ride, and singing 100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall. She remembers the big hill in front of the library where she and her classmates ran and rolled down, much to the dismay of the staff and other visitors. But she doesn't remember much about the library itself, other than it was quite boring. I'd say that is typical for kids that age. The important thing is she remembers the trip as fun, which might someday bring her back to the library for history.

The building on the postcard is LBJ's ranch house, where he spent time away from Washington, D.C. It was also a working cattle ranch. Today it is part of the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historic Park, and not far from the LBJ Library and Museum.

  1. Although the museum & library are in Austin, the LBJ Ranch is on one of the roads between Austin and Fredericksburg. We drove that way at Christmastime, but did not stop at the park. I've been to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center once (also in Austin) - I'd love to go back!

  2. Tricia is correct. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear on the postcard. The LBJ Ranch is not IN Austin. The postcard just reminded me of the trip I took to see the LBJ Library and other things in and around Austin. I did go to the Ranch many years later. It was nice, but I couldn't remember much to "write home about" so to speak. Sorry for the confusion.
