Elisabeth writes that there are many pretty churches in her Belgian town of Leuven, the one featured on this postcard, St. Peter's, is the biggest and most famous. She goes to the this church for Christmas Eve services, and because the church is not heated, it is always very cold. But, Elisabeth warms herself with the thoughts of the many Christmases this place has seen since its construction in 1425.

This church has two towers, both incomplete, that are part of the UNESCO World Heritage site,
Belfries of Belgium and France. Until Wikipedia came along, it was quite difficult to figure out which belfries in those two countries were on "the list." It would make for a very interesting tour to
just visit cities, marked on the map, with these belfries.

The postage stamp Elisabeth used features a portion of a painting by the Flemish Primitive Dirk Bouts, Last Supper (1464-1468). The actual painting hangs in St. Peter's and is one of very few pieces by Bouts that have survived history. Such a treat to have complimentary postage on the cards! I know it is not always easy to acquire such postage, and I really appreciate the extra surprise.
