This incredibly romantic view is Castle Moil on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. The castle is but a ruin, but a very pretty ruin. There is a legend, of course, about a beautiful queen from a foreign land who lived here and is buried on the island, facing her beloved home country, Norway.
Ally in Australia remembers her mom singing the Scottish folk song, The Skye Boat, when she was a child. Ally longs to return to this place, and I long to see it for the first time.
Speed, bonnie boat,
like a bird on the wing,
Onward! the sailors cry;
Carry the lad that's born to be King
Over the sea to Skye.

Beautiful - I love this song and poem.
ReplyDeleteAnd nothing like a beautiful Scottish accent - I had a boyfriend a few years ago from Edinburgh and it took me a few weeks to understand him on the phone.
Scotland is a real perfect place for legends. I'm so attracted by this country!
