Long Leaping Legs

Springbok
Springbok are the national animal of South Africa, and Alté writes that Springbok is also the name of the national rugby team. I guess that is quite appropriate since both animal and athlete jump very high!

The springbok is one of few antelope species that have an expanding population. Alté also notes that springbok meat is very popular in pies and as "biltong," which is like beef jerky ... a dried, cured meat.  I don't eat meat, but if I were in South Africa, and my host served me biltong, I would give it a try. I once ate rabbit in Slovakia because my host was so generous and I did not want to insult her by refusing.

  1. Is there anything you would refuse to eat? We actually had rabbit two weeks ago. I bought it from our neighbor and I was briefly worried that the girls wouldn't want to eat it (we feed his rabbit regularly)...no such worries! Laura loved it!

    2. The rabbit I ate while in Slovakia was same rabbit I had spent the morning playing with in the backyard, blissfully unaware it was going to be dinner (blissfully for both of us I suppose). I don't think I'd eat any kind of meat raw. I won't try sushi, even though I do sometimes eat seafood.
