Old Friends and an Odd Coincidence

Silvia adopted the postcard of Ouro Preto in Minas Gerais, Brazil, because it is a place she longs to visit. She has very good friends living there who she last saw in Morocco nearly five years ago, and she misses them very much.

The church is St Francis of Assisi, the gathering is a Holy week procession. I'm not Christian, but I think Holy week is the week before Easter. When I first saw this card, I thought it might be a First Holy Communion celebration because there seem to be lots of young girls with white veils. Perhaps First Communion can be held during Holy Week?

The postage is from Cape Verde, where Silvia lives. She makes special mention of it because it celebrates the 30th anniversary of Cape Verde independence. The man is Amílcar Lopes da Costa Cabral, a leader in the fight for independence. He was assassinated on 20 January 1973.  It is completely a coincidence that I picked today to post this postcard. I only just looked up the details about Cabral this evening. Sometimes OPP finds its own way to get postcards scheduled on specific dates.

  1. My sister says "It's all energy, man!" when coincidences like this happen. Have a good day!
