Ohio celebrated its 200th anniversary of statehood in 2003, and Emily writes that the logo on this barn was everywhere in the state. Each county, all 88 of them, got a bicentennial barn and bell. This barn is in Hamilton County.
Emily also writes that the bells were cast in each county by the Verdin Company using a mobile foundry. It is the world's only mobile foundry. Now I want to travel to see all 88 bells!
Visiting the 88 counties became quite a popular activity during the bicentennial. One of Emily's co-workers made a project of photographing each of the barns. The barns are pretty, and nostalgic, but I still think the bells more interesting :)

They used a similar design for a license plate. Ohio cars with this plate always trick me into thinking it's a Washington DC plate...
ReplyDeleteI don't know about the bells, but a few of the barns are gone or have been painted over.
